Fire Ants

Click to Return to Ants

Fire ants in the southern states have become a major issue in the last few years,  especially the Red Imported Fire
Ant.   As this ant continues to invade new areas, there are many concerns with how to stop it.  The RIFA poses a serious
danger medically, as wells as agriculture and residential properties.  This ant can build its nests up to 2 feet high and may contain up to 80,000 ants.  It will also build hills next to foundations, under bathtub traps and will even cause damage to ac units.  There are two methods available to obtain control of the Red Imported Fire Ant.

First of which is a method shown by Texas A&M to work effectively, is called the Texas two step.  This method involves an application of ant bait to the entire yard, then subsequent treatments with a contact insecticide to kill mounds that are present or reappear.  This method is effective but the recurring treatments means you have to continually buy baits and chemicals.

Then there is our method of treating your yard with Top Choice.  Top Choice is a product produced by Bayer and only available to licensed operators.  By applying Top Choice to your yard we can eliminate Fire Ants for one year.  Top Choice makes it safe to go back in the yard without the fear of being eaten up by fire ants.
